Labadee, Haiti: What You Need to Know

However, it is restricted to Pinnacle Crown and Anchor members and suite guests. The disadvantage to Nellie’s beach compared to Adrenaline beach is there are less nearby amenities. In addition, I prefer the open ocean view from Adrenaline beach to the view of the port you get at Nellie’s. The total trip will last three hours and will give you plenty of time to get some sun, look at the sea life, and get back to the shore. Watch others make their way down the long slide and take pictures of your friends and family as they fly out the bottom of the slide and land in the water.

In addition, there is an artisan market you can browse, along with crafts available to purchase at different spots. The Haitians working there cannot take your SeaPass card, so bring a few dollars with you rather than having to trek back to the ship to get some later. Just like any port you visit, you will need your SeaPass card to disembark and for use on the island. Nellie's Beach is a quieter cove which can get busy as the day goes on, but also offers cabanas to rent. Labadee, Royal Caribbean's original private destination, remains a family-favorite place for a great beach day.

The star attraction at Labadee is the Dragon's Breath zip line, which is a 2,800 foot zip line over the ocean that takes guests across the span of Labadee. I generally do not think water shoes are necessary at beaches in the Caribbean, but Labadee's beaches can be tough. You can swim up to the floating bar and climb aboard for a seat anywhere around circular bar. Keep in mind that the island's drink selection may be more limited than on the ship, but they usually have a good assortment of favorites.

Walking

The cruise port of Labadee is in an enclosed peninsula in Haiti with a vast area that is, in reality, a gatted resort for the exclusive privilege of passengers of Royal Caribbean. These three offer the same type of BBQ buffet  lunch fare – chicken or ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, fresh fruit, etc. Interestingly, Royal Caribbean, on their website, states the cuisine as being “local,” and with the exception perhaps of rice and beans, nothing really jumps out as being native of Haiti. Most reviews of the food are that the food is “adequate” but at least it was included in the price of the cruise.

Beach lounging is also a popular activity at Labadee, and visitors can relax on the beautiful white sand beaches that line the peninsula. The resort features four beaches—Adrenaline Beach, Columbus Cove, Nellie’s Beach, and Barefoot Beach—each offering its own character and distinct experience. Zip-lining is one of the most popular activities at Labadee—with over 2,800 feet of line, the resort features what was once the longest zipline over water in the world.

The thrilling Dragon’s Breath Zipline is Labadee’s main claim to fame. When it was constructed, it was the longest over-water zipline in the world. It stretches across the shoreline for 2,600 feet (almost half a mile!). The Arawak Water Park at Columbus Cove offers the chance to hop on cooling icebergs, navigate obstacles, water trampolines, slides and more. For youngsters there’s a smaller scale water park called Adventure Ocean Oasis with water toys, buckets and fountains. Labadee is a haven for all types of watersports including kayaking, snorkeling, parasailing over the bay, paddleboarding or just relax on a floating mat.

Bear in mind, however, that the island’s drink selection may be more limited than the ship, and that drinks served in souvenir cups are not included (although you can get a discount!). We have all you need to know about this popular cruise destination so you can be prepared when you visit this beautiful port of call. At Columbus Beach, there are new bungalows (similar to the cabanas). These cabanas can be reserved via Cruise Planner (at RCI's website) and are 2 types - "Beach" and "Over-Water". Rent prices are USD 395 (Beach Cabana) and USD 495 (Over Water Cabana). Over-Water cabanas are built on rock groupings and have walkways down to the sea.

There are a couple buffets and many bars in Labadee, so you will have all you food and drink nearby during your Labadee Port day. I love any excuse to get out on the water and I think Jet Skis are a great way to do it! The Labadee jet ski rentals are for one hour, which is the perfect amount of time to explore the peninsula and get some thrills.

These excursions are Amiga Island and Paradise Cove getaway, walking tours of the local village, historic tours and workshops, snorkeling tours, cruises along the Haitian coast, and more. You need to pre-book or book onboard the shore excursions, whereas the amusement activities you can book in the resort as well. If you want to enjoy the gorgeous views of Haiti’s mountainous coast, you need to book a shore excursion for an extra fee. I mentioned above that the food, beaches, and sunbeds are complimentary in Labadee for all cruise ship passengers.

Labadee coaster is another must-do activity in Labadee, as it goes through the lush forest and offers unmatched views of Labadee (Haiti) once you are at the top. Dragon’s Tail Coaster sign-up hut is at the end of Adrenaline beach, near Café Labadee and the Floating bar. This activity is suitable for families, as 2 people can ride in one cart (one is the driver, another one is the passenger). There are three open-air buffet-style restaurants in Labadee and the food is complimentary for all guests and crew. The food is the same in all three restaurants and is prepared onboard a cruise ship. Labadee is relatively small and easy to get around, as it’s less than 1 km long (0.5 miles) and half a kilometer wide (0.25 miles).

You can also rent shady beach loungers from $48 for two and the ultimate couple’s four-poster beach beds from $175. The Artisan’s Village is an open-air market with many local traders and artisans selling wood carvings, paintings, jewelry and unique souvenirs. You can see them working on their crafts and there’s the chance to haggle a little. From this central point you’ll find lots of things to do while visiting Labadee and many activities are free. When you get off the pier, there are a few walking trails to your left, and it provides nice views around Labadee. In addition, the paved walkways and even that white sand can get very hot in the afternoon.

Curiously, on Labadee there is a crew-only beach (located south of Columbus Cove Beach). Named "Belly Beach", it can be accessed only by boat (leaving from the jet-ski landing) and is exclusive to cruise ship crew members. Belly Beach is private (not owned by Royal Caribbean) so food and beverages there cost extra and are provided from an a la carte-priced menu at an open-air restaurant. Port Labadee Haiti cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Labadee Haiti, Royal Caribbean private island. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Some ships have gone to Grand Turk; Perfect Day at CocoCay; or Falmouth, Jamaica. While there has been no reported incidents of violence in Labadee, an abundance of caution seems to be the primary factor in cancelling calls to Labadee. We have suspended all visits to Labadee fleetwide through May 2024, and we continue to monitor the situation with our Global Security & Intelligence team.

The twists and turns of this coaster will have you whipped back and forth as if you’re holding on to the back of a real dragon’s tail while it is moving around. With a trip that will take you along the side of the mountain, you’ll see the forest and the ocean. Adventure Ocean Oasis is located in the central part of the resort between Adrenaline Beach and Nellie’s Beach. This area is reserved for the youngest ones, and you can’t miss it as it’s on the main road where the tram stops! It has a water park and kids’ splash zone filled with toys, geysers, fountains, and a “wreck” of a pirate ship.
